Tekken/fighting/killing=fun

SAMBO is a modern Russian martial arts system developed during the Soviet union, the art mixes both striking and grappling techniques. The word SAMBO is an abbreviation of the word SAMozashchita Bez Oruzhiya, meaning self-defense without a weapon in Russian. SAMBO was founded by a lot of people, there is not one father of the system. The founders of SAMBO sifted deliberately through all of the world's martial arts to augment their military's hand-to-hand combat system, as the buffer between Europe and Asia, Russia had more than ample opportunities to sift through the martial skills of various invaders, Vikings, Tatars, Mongolians, etc..

To name a few of SAMBO's influences, here is a list:
Savate
Muay Thai
Wu Shu
Jujitsu
Boxing
Greco-Roman Wrestling
Fencing
Various (Russian)native combat systems

According to my research (Tekken5 D.R. etc.) SAMBO
is more of a grappling art than a striking art. Posted by Picasa

Origins: Sweet Science

At around 900B.C., a greek ruler named Thesus was entertained by seeing men who would sit in front of each other and beat another with their fists until one of them would die, in time this became an Olympic sport where fighters wore gloves (not padded) and wrappings on their arms and elbows, but otherwise were completely naked when competing. After the fall of the Roman empire this sport disappeared, and would later re-surface in England during the late 1600's as Boxing. Posted by Picasa
